Katsina Dolls
Katsinas are spirits that represent many things from plants, animals, natural forces of nature, as well as neighboring tribes. Traditionally they are carved out of cottonwood root. Cottonwood holds great cultural significance due to its water seeking nature. The dolls you see here are considered “Old Style” dolls. Materials include; acrylic and natural paints, plant fibers, beads, shells, leather, furs, and feathers.
